Photos of some really lovely Foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea).

Above and below are one of England's most beautiful wildflowers - The Foxglove. They appear for a short while in late Spring and into Summer and can be frequently seen in for instance the woods within The Chilterns. Foxgloves are poisonous if eaten as they can cause the heart to slow down or even stop - perhaps one of the reasons they can also be known as Witches Gloves and Dead Man's Bells. Foxgloves can be easily grown in gardens - however in the first year there will not be any flowers. Having flowered in the second year then they should be left alone until they have gone to seed and dispersed their seeds around.
